My servant leadership project, "Spread the Warmth," is a blanket drive for the homeless and less fortunate residents of Rome and Floyd County. I have been doing this project for three years and have collected a total of 353 blankets.
I started the project in 2010 and received 123 blankets. Last year, I collected 230 blankets, which I was able to distribute during First United Methodist Church of Rome's White Christmas event. I was so grateful for the response I received from the school and the community. I was fortunate enough to be interviewed last year about my project. To learn more, visit the Darlington website and click on the 1,000 Stories link. I am Story #85.
This year, I hope to again collect more than 200 blankets so that I can give each person a blanket when they pick up their White Christmas food boxes. I am accepting new or gently used blankets, and all sizes are appreciated. Collection boxes are located in the lobby of the Lower and Middle Schools. There is also a box in my advisor, Mr. Hudson’s, room at the Upper School. You may also contact me directly at vingram@darlingtonschool.org and I can make arrangements to pick them up.
I believe “Spread the Warmth” is a way I can give back to the community, have fun doing it and also learn about others at the same time.
