Darlington is offering two athletic summer camps for students interested in physical fitness and improving sports skills. Quarterback and Receivers Camp will be held from June 10 through 14, and Basketball Camp for boys from June 3 through 7 and for girls July 22 through 26. Both camps are open to rising fifth through ninth graders.
Tommy Atha, varsity football head coach, will be directing the Quarterback and Receivers Camp, which focuses on the basic mechanics of these positions, ball handling, and stalk blocking. The experience also builds a team spirit, positive work ethic, leadership skills, and self-motivation in players. The camp cost is 80 dollars if registered by May 15, and includes lunch, snacks, and T-shirt. Players must bring cleats and athletic attire.
Basketball Camps will be directed by Jim Van Es, varsity boys basketball head coach, and Angie Milford, varsity girls basketball head coach. Players will be grouped by ability and will learn fundamental skills like shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, defending, and setting and using screens. The camp will be held at the Huffman Memorial Athletic Center from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The camp cost is $110 if registered by May 15 and includes lunch, snacks, and T-shirt. Campers must wear basketball shoes and athletic attire.
Questions may be directed to Glenn Getchell, director of summer programs at 706-378-3703 or ggetchell@darlingtonschool.org.
