Sophomore to spend summer at Arabic Language Institute

Sophomore Lucas Greenberg has been selected to participate in the State Department's National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) Arabic Summer Program. He will spend June 17 through July 28 studying at the Center for Language & Culture (CLC) in Morocco.
"The overall goal of the NSLI-Y Arabic Language Institute in Morocco, implemented by Legacy International, is to rapidly increase participants' Arabic language acquisition and ability to communicate with confidence in Arabic," said Mitra Rash, program director. "This will be accomplished through an immersive language environment that combines formal in-class instruction with informal opportunities to use the language during homestays and cultural enrichment activities."
All participants are required to complete language assessments at key intervals and as requested by American Councils or CLC in order to maintain good standing in the program. They are also required to take tests, quizzes and other assessments as part of their in-country program.
Students will become oriented to Moroccan history through city tours and excursions, games and scavenger hunts, intercultural dialogues, field trips to other cities, and other cultural opportunities.
Lucas is the son of Terri Greenberg of Atlanta and Gene Greenberg, also of Atlanta.
