Softball prepares for new season, new field

Darlington’s softball team’s enthusiasm is a little more fervent this year than in past seasons –and with good reason. This team will be the first to practice and play on Darlington’s first official softball field. Professionally designed and built, the field sports a layered infield, a sod outfield, and an underground irrigation system.
“This is without a doubt one of the nicest fields on campus,” Coach Penny Braden said. “The team is really excited to begin play on this field.” Players are preparing for a strong season. Voluntary practices began in late June, then, official tryouts and practices are scheduled to begin in early August. “This season will be another year of growth as we add new players to the all important positions of catcher and pitcher,” Braden explained. “We’ll be led by seniors Sarah Mooney, Juli Mull, Andrea Cescutti, and Alice Griffin.
