Soccer Academy hosts first informational meeting

Darlington’s newest special program, the Soccer Academy, is in place and looking for students to join the club this fall. Academy Director Chad A. Liddle is hosting an informational meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 10 in the School’s Dodd Dining Room to give all interested parents and alumni a chance to learn more about the program.
Liddle, a U.S. Soccer National Instructor Staff, NSCAA National Staff Coach, USSF “A” license, Region III ODP Staff, has enlisted the help of nationally licensed coaches and performance training specialists to design and manage the program. “We have designed a total soccer immersion training program that will take advantage of Darlington’s world-class facilities and expose students to Darlington’s challenging academic program and caring faculty, at the same time,” Liddle said. “Darlington’s faculty and coaches are committed to helping each student manage his or her time to achieve success in the classroom and on the field.”
Soccer students participate in daily, small group, technical/tactical-functional training sessions, and team training sessions. The Soccer Academy will compete as a U.S. Club Soccer team in club “friendlies,” college showcases, and domestic and international tournaments.
Darlington School Soccer Academy has formed relationships with Georgia Youth Soccer Association clubs to ensure that all players have ample means to train and compete at their age and abilities. Clubs include Arsenal Rome and the Atlanta Silverbacks. Additionally, Super “Y” League competition and Olympic Development Program participation can be available through these outside club relationships.
After school ends, most students return to their homes for the summer. However, they may elect to participate in summer training sessions at Darlington instead. Soccer Academy staff will be holding a player/team camp, July 18–22, and an elite high school and college player camp, July 30–Aug. 1, for high school juniors, seniors, and graduates preparing for their pre-seasons. This camp will be combined with the Soccer Academy’s Field Player and Goalkeeper Academy Camp, July 30–Aug. 1. The camps will host National Staff and college coaches, and foster mentoring relationships between college players and players who hope to play in college.
