Sixth-grader Madeline Gaffney will play a mouse named Sassy in Atlanta Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker” at the Fox Theatre in December.

“Last year, I went to see my friend in ‘The Nutcracker’ and I thought it looked really fun,” she said. “I auditioned and I was so excited when I got my acceptance letter. As mice, we have to act very scared and move rapidly around the stage.”

Gaffney started dancing at the Bravo Dance Center at age 3. This is her third year in Bravo’s dance company.

“My favorite part about performing is the costumes,” she said. “Every dance requires costumes, and I love all the different accessories.”

Gaffney is scheduled to perform Dec. 2, Dec. 9, Dec. 20, Dec. 23 and Dec. 30. The Atlanta Ballet has set up an account for each dancer so that anyone who orders tickets through a dancer’s account receives a 20 percent discount. Click here to purchase discount tickets via Gaffney’s page.

“The Atlanta Ballet has performed ‘The Nutcracker’ for many years and it has always been great quality,” said Gaffney. “I hope audience members will be able to see how hard we worked!”
