Sixth grade adds Spanish, moves Study Skills

It’s a matter of cause and effect. With the addition of Spanish to the Lower School curriculum two years ago, this year’s rising sixth graders come ready to learn even more Spanish. Middle School teacher Tony Lopez is more than ready to challenge them by offering a new Spanish class.
To accommodate this addition, the study skills coursework that had been offered as a separate class is being added to the English curriculum. “Other classes will focus on study skills appropriate to that discipline as well,” Sally MacLeod, assistant principal, said, in response to a parent’s question during the Middle School Pizza Party and Orientation.
“The new supplementary book being used in sixth grade English focuses much more on study skills than its predecessor,” Nancy Ivester, a veteran English teacher in Middle School, said.
