Shorter Chorale director to work with Concert Choir

Darlington's Concert Choir will welcome to class Dr. Stefanie Cash, Shorter University's director of choral activities and music education, on Tuesday, March 24. 

Cash will be working with choral students to help them prepare for their upcoming Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE), sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA). Darlington's LGPE participants will perform as an ensemble in a choral competition in Cartersville, Ga. on March 26. The group will be graded based on how well songs are interpreted and sung, using criteria like vocal quality, intonation, diction and phrasing.

"Since I come from a solo vocal background, concepts like unity of ensemble are things I'd love to learn to instill in my students," said Rebecca Duren, Darlington's director of choral music. "Dr. Cash's instruction will be invaluable both to our students and to me as their teacher."

Before joining the Shorter faculty, Cash taught middle and high school in Georgia and Kentucky where she led choirs to successful performances in evaluations and musical festivals statewide.

Cash also serves as Shorter's director of Chorus, Women’s Chorus, and the Shorter Chorale. She currently teaches conducting, choral techniques and methods courses.

Cash holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Morehead State University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Kentucky. She received her Doctorate in Music Education with a choral conducting emphasis from Florida State University. 

She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, Georgia Music Educators Association, and National Association for Music Education.
