Seventh-graders recognized by Duke TIP

Five seventh-grade students from Darlington were recognized for their scores on the ACT or SAT by the Duke University Talent Identification Program’s (Duke TIP) 7th Grade Talent Search. This compares to 11 students in the entire Floyd County Schools system and six from Rome City Schools.

These students qualified for state or program recognition as a result of their performance on a college entrance exam.

Twelve seventh-graders out of the 23 who qualified from Darlington took the SAT or ACT this year as a part of the Duke TIP Program. The Duke program identifies students in 16 states who have scored in the 95th percentile on a grade-level achievement test. As part of the program, these academically talented students take above level college-entrance exams (SAT or ACT) to learn more about their abilities.

The Grand Recognition Ceremony honors seventh-graders who have earned scores equal to or better than 90 percent of college-bound seniors who took the same tests. State Recognition Ceremonies honor seventh-graders who have earned scores equal to or better than half of the college-bound seniors who took the tests.

 

The Duke TIP Academy for Summer Studies offers an exceptional academic and social experience for those students who are amongst the top 5 percent of academically talented students in their grade level.
