Seventh-grader Ethan Pender has qualified to represent Darlington School and participate at the state level of the National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek.

State competitors must be in grades 4-8 and must have won the contest at the school level. The state bee will be held on Friday, April 1, at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville.

The winner from each state and territory will advance to the national competition, which will be held May 24 and 25 at the National Geographic Society headquarters in Washington, D.C. The final round of the 2011 National Geographic Bee, featuring Jeopardy's Alex Trebek, will air on the National Geographic Channel on May 25 and then on public TV stations, produced by National Geographic Television.
