Senior wins prestigious scholarship from Syracuse University

Senior Paige Banks has been named a Posse Scholar by Syracuse University and will receive a full tuition award for four years of undergraduate study. The total estimated value of this scholarship exceeds $145,000.

“Over 500 applicants began the competition and in the end, Paige was one of only 12 students selected,” said Ivy Brewer, associate dean of college guidance. “In addition to winning a full scholarship, she will be part of the Posse Foundation’s leadership team at Syracuse. This is a huge accomplishment and we are so excited for her!”

A head prefect, Banks has taken seven Honors and AP courses at Darlington and is a member of the Spanish National Honor Society. She is also a member of the Darlington Diamonds dance team and the varsity track and field team, the latter earning her an All-Area nod and Darlington’s Most Valuable Player Award in 2011. She is a manager and statistician for the basketball teams and enjoys working with children at the Boys & Girls Club and McHenry Primary School.

She will be recognized at a Posse Foundation ceremony on Dec. 14 in Atlanta, after which she will begin extensive leadership training with the other members of Syracuse’s team. Training will continue throughout the winter, spring and summer in preparation for her arrival at Syracuse next fall.

Paige is the daughter of Pamela and Ricky Banks of Atlanta.
