Senior girls sign to play college sports

Anja Knabe-Paulsen, from Hamburg, Germany, has set records for Darlington volleyball all year long, including being the first volleyball player in Lady Tigers’ history to sign a full scholarship with a college. On April 15, she signed with Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, to play for the Golden Flashes starting this fall.
“I got a lot of interest from Southern schools and from Ohio University, but I really enjoyed talking to Kent State’s coaches and their players,” Knabe-Paulsen said in The Rome News-Tribune article about her signing. “Their offense that they run is one that I like and I just think it’s a perfect fit for me.”
In her one year of playing varsity volleyball for Darlington, she set nine school records and four state records, finishing with 631 kills, 257 aces, and 287 digs in helping lead Darlington to a 41-6 record, Area 6-AA/A regular-season and tournament titles, and a fifth-place finish at the State tournament.
Darlington Head Coach Jim Linos told the paper that there wasn’t anything Knabe-Paulsen couldn’t or wouldn’t do to help her team.
Another Darlington athletic star, Jenny Morris, from Cedartown, Ga., has focused her athletic energies on playing golf since she was 12 and her efforts visibly paid off on April 16 when she signed to play golf at Mercer University. “It’s kind of been a goal of mine,” she told a Rome News-Tribune reporter.
King described Morris in the news article as a self-motivated, hardworking team leader who should continue to improve at the next level while at Mercer.
“I think she’s got one of the better games in high school,” King said in the article. “She’s extremely dedicated to the sport … a team player from the word go.”
