Lucy Babcock’s second-grade class took an end-of-year field trip to Silver Creek to learn about streams and their environments. Assisted by Upper School teacher Owen Kinney’s Environmental Science class, the students monitored a stream and learned about the animals that live in it.

During the field trip, Kinney’s class taught the second graders about stream ecology during group exercises. “Some topics that came up were the relationship between nutrient pollution and algal growth, the effects of sedimentation on benthic macroinvertebrates, the relationship between stream quality and biodiversity, and the relationship between turbidity and macrophyte growth,” Kinney said.
