In the wake of David Hicks’ announcement in early January to retire at the end of this school year, the Board of Trustees has named fellow trustee member John Irby ’81, an attorney and partner in Wilson, Brock & Irby, Atlanta, as chair of a Search Committee to identify candidates for president of the School. The committee has been formed and will begin working immediately to define the type of person who will be best able to lead the School into its second century.
“Our intent in selecting people for the committee was to form a diverse group to represent all areas of the Darlington family,” Irby said. “For example, we have Board of Trustee members, Board of Visitors members, Alumni Council members, an Upper School faculty member, current parents, current grandparents, people with experience in both the day and resident programs, people from Rome, and people from outside the local area.”
“Everyone on the committee has expressed excitement about participating and being able to help the School in this way,” Irby said. "Our goal will be to keep the Darlington community engaged, involved, and informed about the search process."
He encourages members of the Darlington community to share thoughts about the search by writing him at the following address: Wilson, Brock & Irby, Suite 700, Overlook I, 2849 Paces Ferry Road, Atlanta, GA 30339.
Members of the Search Committee are:
· Joan W. Brock ’74, current parent and Alumni Council member, Rome, Ga.
· Jere A. Drummond ’57, trustee, Atlanta
· Suzy B. Gilbert, trustee, grandparent, and past parent, Armuchee, Ga.

· William A. Mitchell Jr. ’58, trustee and past chair of the Board of Trustees, Atlanta
· David L. Powell, Thatcher Chair of English, faculty member and parent, Rome, Ga.

· William G. Smith Jr. ’72, trustee, Tallahassee, Fla.
Delos H. Yancey III ’77, current parent and Board of Visitors member, Rome, Ga.
