Science Fair Inspires Fifth-Graders

In the spirit of tradition and with an ongoing quest for knowledge, the fifth grade will hold its 15th annual science fair on Friday, March 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:40 a.m., in the Lower School gym.
The fair is for fifth-grade participants, but it wasn’t always that way. Reatha Carroll initially created the fair for her fourth-graders to encourage them to learn scientific method and process. Fifth-grade teacher Lola Bradshaw, took over and continued the custom when she joined the Darlington community in 1986.
The fifth-grade science curriculum focuses on life science, but the fair enables students to delve into other sciences as well.
“The fair gives students who are excited about science an opportunity to expand specific interests,” said fifth grade teacher Perree Collier. “Hopefully, this is a fun, learning experience. One never knows when a new inventor or scientist may emerge from this experience.”
