School to host Tiger Brawl

Darlington School will host the 3rd Annual Tiger Brawl wrestling event on Saturday, Dec. 12, beginning at 9 a.m. in the A.J. Huffman ’67 Memorial Athletic Center. This event will feature over 500 wrestlers from 19 different schools.
“We are expecting at least 2,000 people in attendance,” said Randy Smith, wrestling coach. “We have never had this many people projected for any event ever in the history of Darlington. This is huge!”
According to Smith, the event aims to give sixth- and seventh-graders more mat time in a tournament-like atmosphere. “At a traditional tournament, many of these student-athletes would wrestle only a couple of matches for a couple of minutes,” he explained. “At the Tiger Brawl, each wrestler will have four to five matches against other athletes of similar experience and ability. This equates to more mat time and more positive wrestling experience.”
In the past three years, the Tiger Brawl has more than tripled in size. This year’s event will feature wrestlers from Armuchee, Bremen, Cass, Rockmart, Union Grove, Sonoraville, Allatoona, Chattanooga Christian, Rome, Model, Woodland, Cedartown, Adairsville, Darlington, Coosa, Cartersville, McCallie, Valley Point and Dalton.
