School presents Winter Sports Awards

Outstanding athletes in basketball, wrestling, swimming, diving and cheerleading were recognized at the Winter Sports Assembly held Friday, March 17 in Morris Chapel.
In varsity basketball:
Junior Corey Roper of Rome received the Van Enloe Boys Basketball Award, given by Van P. Enloe Sr. to the team’s most valuable player.
Senior Greg Phillips of Rome received the Hustler Boys Basketball Award, given to the player who gives 100-percent effort in both practice and in contests.
Junior Shawn Powell of Silver Creek, Ga., received the Jim Van Es Award, given by Mr. and Mrs. Max M. Kimball to the most outstanding rebounder.
Senior Brittni Dulaney of Rome received the Van Enlose Girls Basketball Award, given by Van P. Enloe Sr. to the team’s most valuable player, and the Meggie Beth Erwin Class of 2003 Hustler Award, given to the player who gives 100-percent effort both in practice and in contests.
Senior Emily Hendrickson of Rome received the Spirit Award for Girls Basketball, presented to the team member who has contributed the most in spirit and loyalty.
Senior Brooke Wetherington of Rome received the Huffman Girls Basketball Award, established by Darah Huffman (’95) and Anna Huffman (’96) to be given to the varsity girl player, as selected by her coach, who has given 100 percent effort to her team and exemplifies the phrase “paying the price” for excellence in basketball.
In wrestling:
Senior Luke Hyder of Rome received the Best Wrestler Award.
Senior Jake Hussein of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, received the Wrestling Spirit Award, presented to the team member who has contributed the most in spirit and loyalty.
Senior Grant Harbin of Rome received the Most Improved Wrestler Award.
In swimming:
Freshman Natalie Maffett and senior Peter Hjort, both of Rome, received Most Valuable Swimmer Awards, presented by the Darlington Alumni Association.
Freshman Monique Picon of Rome and senior Titus Junemann of Kassel, Germany received the Most Improved Swimmer Award.
In diving:
Sophomore Clint Monteith of Rome received the Grant Muller Most Valuable Male Diver Award.
Sophomore Landon Watters of Rome received the Megan Bevill Most Valuable Female Diver Award.
In cheerleading:
Sophomore Claire Wyatt of Rome received the Berry Cheerleading MVP Award, established by Mr. and Mrs. Bob Berry and their daughters, Lowry and Natalie, to be given to the cheerleader from the varsity football, basketball or competition squad who has exhibited the overall highest qualities of spirit, leadership and athletic ability.
Senior Amber Barker of Rome received the Lauren Muller Senior Cheerleading Award, established in 2002 by Dr. and Mrs. Richard Muller Jr. in recognition of the football, basketball or competition cheerleader who exemplifies outstanding school spirit, sportsmanship and leadership.
