School hosts Sport Source event

Darlington School, in partnership with Arsenal Rome Soccer Club, is bringing The Sport Source 17th Annual Soccer Showcase & College Coaches’ Player Clinic to Rome Dec. 14-16.
This event is open to boys and girls from Under-16 to Under-19 clubs, state and regional teams, as well as Olympic Development Program teams from across the United States, selected based on standing within their region, age and division. This year, Darlington will host teams from Canada and club teams from dozens of U.S. states from as far away as Texas and Rhode Island.
“This is a way for players from across the nation to gather and develop their soccer skills while participating in seminars, games, and scouting activities with coaches from several colleges in the Southeast,” said Chad Liddle, director of Darlington School Soccer Academy. “Our goal is for all the players involved with this event to have maximum exposure to the college coaches attending and to make sure that we are bringing top-level soccer to the City of Rome.”
Approximately 1,000 players on over 60 teams will be participating. Nearly 75 college coaches will attend this year’s event. Over the three-day showcase, each team will play in three 80-minute exhibition games, allowing all the players to perform in front of the college coaches.
Darlington School Soccer Academy will host the College Coaches’ Player Clinic Friday, Dec. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. At the clinic, individual players have the opportunity to be trained and evaluated by college coaches.
"This will allow the players to be seen more as individuals in the roles and positions they choose verses the position and role their club team’s coach might play them," said Liddle. "It is also a chance for individuals whose club teams may not have been accepted into the showcase to display their talents.”
The annual Sport Source event is a great opportunity not only for Rome's community soccer players, but also for local businesses.
"The economic impact of this event really gives a boost to the local economy, bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars from these 3,000 plus weekend visitors," said Liddle.
Games will be played at the YMCA’s Grizzard Park and Darlington’s soccer, stadium and lacrosse fields. All games are open to the public, as is the college coaches’ Q&A Panel on Saturday night. For further information, please contact Chad Liddle at 706-378-3706 or 404-932-4626.
