George W. Awsumb, Darlington faculty since 1962, became the first recipient of the George W. Awsumb Award at the annual Faculty Appreciation Dinner. “Fittingly, this award was begun because of George’s passionate spirit and dedication to the School. Who better as the initial recipient?” Headmaster David Rhodes said.

This honor, set up in June 1999, has been established to recognize a distinguished member of the faculty who exemplifies commitment to the education and well being of the superior and average student alike.

This commitment is demonstrated by the unselfish desire of the faculty member to instruct and challenge students in both a professional and enthusiastic manner and by the ability of the faculty member to raise the overall level of education and quality of life at Darlington.

Set as a cash bonus, this honor is to be bestowed on a member of the Upper School faculty who is selected by the president and headmaster.
