Tiger Teams are roaring into Darlington this semester. Beginning in October, fourth and fifth grade students will be participating in enrichment activities twice each week for 30 minutes. Three sessions will be held this year to offer students a variety of activities that appeal to their interests and talents. The first session will be October 2 through December 14.

“We are pleased that our fourth and fifth grade students will be given the opportunity to make choices that support personal interests,” said Diane Lumpkin, lead teacher and organizer of Tiger Teams, “Because of the variety of teams being offered, we expect our students to participate with enthusiasm, assume some ownership and perhaps even further cultivate their talents.”

For those with a love for singing and performing, Tiger Tones hits the note. Lumpkin will lead this group of stars and performances will be scheduled around Rome.

The Tiger Twigs will tweak the campus grounds by gardening, weeding, and planting, while learning about the plants they encounter. Sprucing will be led by Barbara Barfield, Lower School Spanish teacher. “We will also try to work closely with the third grade teachers’ butterfly program,” said Barfield, “we welcome any donations of gardening expertise, perennials, or bulbs.”

The fun art activities offered are to “dye” for with the Tie-Dyed Tigers. Katie Clotfelter, Lower School art teacher, plans to make Christmas ornaments and decorate trashcans during the sessions.

Calling all chess players and want-to-be chess players. The Tiger Knights will be honing their chess skills with Ann Glass, Lower School librarian and master chess player.

Once upon a time, a group of students called the Tiger Tales wrote poems and stories that were published and placed on Darlington’s website. Cheryl Matthews, Lower School computer skills instructor and Kandi Riddle, Pre-Kindergarten aide, wrote the book on this enrichment activity.
