RUMPUS: Here and Gone

Whew, what a weekend! RUMPUS started off with a bang. Over 285 students dressed up in their house themes, spent the night in dorms, and cheered for our basketball teams. As faculty member Bailey Duncan said, "Mt. Zion isn't going to know what hit 'em." 

Our campus played host to the Blues Brothers, Dinorsaurs, a big troop of Girl Scouts, the Harlem Globetrotters, William Wallace and the rest of the Braveheart men, and some aristocratic Aristocats! 

Teams competed in Dodgeball, Fear Factor, Iron Chef, Mind Skillet, Trivia, The Guantlet, Lip Sync, and their themes for the weekend. There was a very competitive game of musical chairs between the Heads of House and the Head Prefects.

It was a tight race and anybody's game right until the end, but the Regester House girls emerged as the first girls' house to win RUMPUS after placing in the top three in every event except one. If you recall last year, the Regester girls placed second, so they came out ready to win!  Good job to the ladies of Regester House, their duty teachers and Head of House Mrs. Blaylock.

Thank you to everyone who worked a station, participated, judged, took pictures, or came out just to watch the fun. This weekend would not have been possible without your support. It was a tremendous event and I am so proud of the sportsmanship and leadership shown by our students. They were supportive of each other and were gracious winners and losers. 

And finally, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to all faculty, board members, alumni, and friends of Darlington who participated in the Fear Factor food contest. Darlene, Jade and I take full responsibility for the nastiness of Fear Factor! I hope there were not too many upset tummies, but I am sure the strong stench of sauerkraut sandwiches will forever remain with you.

RUMPUS, one of the most highly anticipated weekends for Darlington students, takes place each January. During this weekend-long competition, day and dorm students take part in a variety of events, earning points for their performance in each. At the end of the weekend, one house is named RUMPUS champion.
