Ross builds Bridge Club

An impressive attendance at the kickoff, demonstrates the strong student support that Darlington's new bridge club is receiving. During the primier event, on September 22, there were three full tables in attendance.
Tollie Ross, the club's faculty adviser, has a passion for the game along with an impressive playing record including tenth ranking overall in the United States in Flight B in 1995; district (Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and East Tennessee) in 1995; regional (Southeast United States) in 1999; and many wins at sectional tournaments and club games.
"My favorite partner was Harry Shearer, who passed away three years ago. I credit him for my advanced knowledge of the game," Ross said. Perhaps Ross' passion is contagious boosting interest in the game on the campus.
All Upper School students are welcome to attend the meetings that are scheduled for each Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Briley Lecture Room of the Darlington Library. According to Ross, any lessons missed can be easily made up at the next session. Knowledge of the game is not a requirement. “In the very near future the students will know enough to have team competitions between the houses,” Ross said.
