Roper 6-AA's player of year

Darlington coach Jim Van Es says often that junior guard Corey Roper is “an impact player.” Obviously, Van Es isn’t the only one who’s noticed.
Roper was named the Region 6-AA Player of the Year on Thursday. The award was based on voting done by the 6-AA coaches. Roper was the go-to player for a Darlington team that won the 6-AA tournament title and advanced to the second round of the AA state tournament. The Tigers also won the Rome News-Tribune Holiday Festival in December for the first time in school history.
Roper was one of 10 local players to be named to the 6-AA All-Region Boys Team. He was joined by Darlington teammate Shawn Powell, along with Russ Morrow (Adairsville), Ryan Chattam (Calhoun), Ryan Hughes (Chattooga), Corey Edmondson (Coosa), Jack Moss (Model), Beau Brown (Model), Brandon Lovering (Pepperell) and Steven Pruitt (Pepperell).
Greater Rome was also well represented on the All-Region Girls Team, with 10 players selected. They were: Lenee Fuller (Armuchee), Christine Hollander (Calhoun), Jheri Booker (Chattooga), Robyn Foster (Coosa), Ieshia Alexander (Coosa), Brooke Wetherington (Darlington), Kayla Evans (Model), Kendall Davis (Model) and Jennifer Bruce (Pepperell). Evans, who signed a letter of intent to play with Berry next year, and Davis played key roles in help the Lady Devils win the 6-AA championship and advance to the Class AA sectionals.
Dade County’s Ashley Houts, who has signed with Georgia, was the region’s Player of the Year.
