Darlington School was included in the 46th annual Red Carpet Tour, which came through Rome Friday, April 8. The buses pulled through the Upper School campus and were greeted by the student body as well as faculty and staff. Rome and Northwest Georgia will have a few hours today to show themselves to 39 corporate executives plus economic development professionals as part of the 46th annual Red Carpet Tour.

The yearly event brings business leaders who are interested in establishing a new location for their company. The tour rotates each year through different regions of the state in an attempt to show off all of Georgia.

“Historically, we’ve been successful on previous Red Carpet Tours in showcasing our community and gaining new businesses because of it,” said Rome Mayor Ronnie Wallace. “This time it gives us the opportunity to showcase our entire region, which is important to promote the region’s continued economic success.”

This year’s tour began Wednesday night at the governor’s mansion in Atlanta and headed to Augusta on Thursday so guests could watch the first round of the Masters golf tournament, which was delayed by rain.

This morning, guests are riding through Cartersville to learn about the city, after which they will take a driving tour of Rome, particularly schools and colleges, and then stop at State Mutual Stadium.

At the stadium, they’ll have lunch and hear from guest speaker Guy Mannino, president and chief executive of Pirelli Tire North America, which established its corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility in Rome in 2002.

Since 1988, guests on the Red Carpet Tour have announced more than $3.5 billion in new or expanded business investments in the state and about 30,000 new jobs, according to the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.

The tour is a partnership between the Georgia chamber, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Allies and the Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce.

Rome and Floyd County’s development authorities paid $30,000 to help sponsor the tour. Dalton and Whitfield County contributed $30,000, and nine other counties chipped in to round out the total budget of $155,000 for the Northwest Georgia leg of the tour.

Dalton is the region’s other host city where tour guests will go for tonight’s dinner after their time in Rome. The tour will conclude Saturday with another visit to the Masters in Augusta.
