On Christmas Day, the Rome News-Tribune published its picks for the 2004 All-Area football team, and Darlington appeared on both the offense and defense.

According to the article, this year's All-Area offense accounted for more than 16,235 yards and close to 100 touchdowns on the field, and they ran, passed, kicked, caught and blocked better than anyone else in Greater Rome.

Darlington seniors Bert Collier, runningback, and Sam Wilson, offensive lineman, were selected to be a part of this team. Collier was second in the area in rushing, with 1,516 yards and 18 touchdowns, and averaged 8.42 yards per carry. Wilson registered 20 pancake blocks in his senior season with the Tigers.

This year's All-Area defense included junior Ryan McMahon, defensive lineman, and senior Barton Lowrey, defensive back. McMahon finished the season with 40 tackles (13 for loss), 4.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and three blocked kicks. Lowrey made 51 tackles and picked off four passes, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.
