Rivalry Benefits Community

Sponsored by the “Y” Cabinet (the student organization that is responsible for creating and maintaining throughout the school the highest standard of Christian living), the six Houses joined efforts in a food drive to benefit the Rome community through First Presbyterian Church’s soup kitchen. The church plans to distribute the food to those in need during the holidays.

With healthy rivalry, houses competed to donate a total of 4286 cans. Students brought their contributions to assembly, Monday, Nov. 6. During the annual Thanksgiving Chapel service on Wednesday, Nov. 8, the donations were presented to First Presbyterian Church representatives Scott Jackson, associate pastor, and Joan Hufstetler, community outreach volunteer.

With 1176 cans, Griffeth House earned a stucco day (casual dress day) for collecting the most cans. House competition results: Griffeth, 1176 cans; Steadman, 989 cans; Harris, 947 cans; Gibbons, 730 cans; Barnes, 324 cans; and Zimmer, 120 cans.
