Darlington will host its annual Alumni Weekend celebration Friday through Sunday, Sept. 27-29. The weekend will celebrate class years ending in 3 and 8.

“Our Alumni Council members and class agents have been working very hard to offer a weekend full of opportunities for our alumni to reconnect with friends and return to our beautiful campus to witness all the exciting transformations that have taken place," said Vicki Vincent, director of alumni relations. "I want to encourage everyone to join us in September. You won’t want to miss it!”

Friday’s activities will feature a Distinguished Alumnus Luncheon and Darlington Celebration honoring W. Gardner Wright ('47). The evening will kick off with a Pre-Game Picnic on Morris Chapel Lawn at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Homecoming football game vs. Trion High School at Chris Hunter Stadium. At 7 p.m., state championship cross country teams will be highlighted during the pre-game spotlight. At halftime, all alumni are invited up to the Huffman Athletic Center’s Yancey Suite for refreshments.

The entire community is invited to participate in the Run With PRIDE 10K, 5K and 1-Mile Race sponsored by Tiger PRIDE (Darlington’s Parents' Association) on Saturday morning; the race will begin at 8 a.m. from the Huffman Center. Longtime faculty member Rick Buice, who will retire this year, will be running and all alumni and former cross country team members are invited to come "Run with Rick!"

At 11 a.m., alumni are invited to the McCallie-Kennedy Library to hear Dr. Frank Wilson's ('46) lecture on "Literature and Life: The Leaven of Letters!" After an Alumni Cookout on the Morris Chapel Lawn at noon, students will give campus tours by the Lakeside. Golden Tigers and Thistles, alumni who have been out of school for 50 or more years, will be honored at a 4 p.m. reception at the Home-on-the-Hill, to be followed by an Alumni Cocktail Party at the same location, which will begin at 5 p.m. (Please note that all class photos will be taken during the Cocktail Party, so check the schedule online to determine what time your class’s photo will be made.)

Class reunion parties will be held after the Alumni Cocktail Party at various locations, unless otherwise noted on the Alumni Weekend invitation (which should be arriving in mailboxes soon!)

The weekend’s activities will conclude Sunday with a Service of Remembrance in Morris Chapel followed by a J. Daniel Hanks Sr. (’27) Heritage Society Luncheon in Dodd Banquet Room at noon.
