Darlington will host its annual Alumni Weekend celebration Friday through Sunday, Oct. 5-7. The weekend will celebrate class years ending in 2 and 7.

“As always, we at Darlington are very much looking forward to having our alumni back on campus,” said Whitney Keene (’01), alumni relations officer. “This year’s event is sure to be a hit with a variety of activities for all to enjoy. We hope everyone will join us for a great weekend at the Lakeside.”

Friday’s activities will feature a Distinguished Alumnus Luncheon and Darlington Celebration honoring Jere Drummond (’57). The evening will kick off with a Pre-Game Picnic on Morris Chapel Lawn, followed by the Homecoming football game at Chris Hunter Stadium. At halftime, alumni are invited up to the Huffman Center’s Yancey Suite for refreshments.

Alumni can enjoy the amenities of Darlington’s Huffman Center on Saturday morning; the weight room will be open from 8-10 a.m. Golfers are invited to Stonebridge Golf Club at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday for the Tiger Tee Off golf tournament (reservations required). At 11 a.m., join the Class of 2007 for a special dedication. Last year, the senior class raised over $50,000 to construct a Habitat House in South Rome; they will return to dedicate the house during Alumni Weekend.

After an Alumni Cookout on the Morris Chapel Lawn, students will give campus tours by the Lakeside at 1 p.m. At 3 p.m., Thornwood alumnae are invited to a reception at the Thornwood Building. Golden Tigers, alumni who have been out of school for 50 or more years, will be honored at a 5 p.m. reception at the Home-on-the-Hill, to be followed by an Alumni Cocktail Party at the same location, which will begin at 6 p.m. Class photos will be taken during the party. All class reunion parties will be held after the Alumni Cocktail Party at various locations; click here for details.

“Our class agents have been working very hard to ensure that their classmates have an opportunity to reconnect with each other in a more intimate setting,” said Vicki Vincent, class agent officer. “For months, they have been selecting sites, planning menus, sending e-mails, making phone calls and writing letters to classmates to encourage them to return to Rome for this exciting weekend.”

The weekend’s activities will conclude Sunday with a Service of Remembrance in Morris Chapel and lunch at noon.
