Darlington will host its annual Alumni Weekend celebration Friday through Sunday, Sept. 25-27. The weekend will celebrate class years ending in 4 and 9.
“We are hoping for a record turnout this year,” said Vicki Vincent, director of alumni relations. “Our Alumni Council members and class agents have worked very hard to offer a weekend full of opportunities for our alumni to reconnect with friends and return to our beautiful campus to witness all the exciting changes taking place. I want to encourage everyone to join us the last weekend in September. You won’t want to miss it!”
Friday’s activities will feature a Distinguished Alumnus Luncheon and Darlington Celebration honoring John Hine (’53). The evening will kick off with a Pre-Game Picnic at 5:30 p.m. on Morris Chapel Lawn, followed by the Homecoming football game in Chris Hunter Stadium, where the school will honor former coach Charlie Davidson. At halftime, all alumni are invited up to the Huffman Center’s Yancey Suite for refreshments.
Alumni can enjoy the amenities of Darlington’s Huffman Center on Saturday morning; the weight room will be open from 8-10 a.m. The Charlie Orr (’75) Trail will be dedicated at 10 a.m., followed by a Fun Run and Nature Walk. After an Alumni Cookout on the Morris Chapel Lawn at noon, class photos will be taken for classes celebrating reunions and students will give campus tours by the Lakeside. At 3 p.m., Thornwood alumnae are invited to a reception at Thornwood House, a residence hall on the Upper School campus named in honor of Thornwood School for Girls. Golden Tigers, alumni who have been out of school for 50 or more years, will be honored at a 4 p.m. reception at the Home-on-the-Hill, to be followed by an Alumni Cocktail Party at the same location, which will begin at 5 p.m. All class reunion parties will be held after the Alumni Cocktail Party at various locations, except the Class of 1944 party which will be held on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
The weekend’s activities will conclude Sunday with a Service of Remembrance in Morris Chapel and lunch at noon. Click here to register online and view the complete schedule of events. Once people begin to register, you will also be able to access the guest list via the Alumni Weekend Web site. Please contact the Alumni Relations Office at 706-236-0408 with any questions.
