"Re-Purpose for a Purpose" clothing donations accepted through May 19

Darlington's Upper School division will continue to accept used clothing to "Re-Purpose for a Purpose" in conjunction with the 63rd annual National Salvation Army Awareness Week, which goes through Sunday.

Items from graduating seniors will be picked up today, May 12, and clothing from other grades will be taken through Thursday, May 19, in various bins at each dormitory. 

As the conclusion of the school year draws closer, dorm students have been working to clean out their closets in search of items to donate through the charitable non-profit. 

The Salvation Army will accept clothing in any condition, including articles missing buttons, zippers and other components. Items that are deemed unsuitable to go to the Family Store will be combined into rag bales and sold to make insulation, used as shop rags, or sent to developing nations. 

All money that is raised from the drive will help send kids to summer camp, fund music lessons, and help pay the utility bills of families in crisis. 

During the summer, donations to the Salvation Army often reach a critically low level. The wearable youth size clothes donated by members of the Darlington Community will help stock the local store for families to be able to send their children back to school in "new-to-them" clothing this August.

The Salvation Army has had a presence in the Rome community for over 128 years, and all donations made in the area stay in the area to help provide shelter and services to those in need.
