Moving minds and hearts with his hands, David Wisniewski is an author and illustrator from Frederick, Maryland and the winner of the Caldecott Award (1997, Golem). He visited Lower School students on April 8, and talked about his background in puppetry and shadow puppetry, as well as his remarkable cut paper artwork and storytelling. Wisniewski also explained the process of writing a children's book to the students.

Some of the students were given the opportunity to help put on a shadow puppet show of Jack and the beanstalk. Second-grader Sean Healy particularly enjoyed the event. "He is a good illustrator and I like the way he showed up about shadow puppets," said Healy. Following his presentations, Wisniewski autographed copies of his book for students in the audience.
