Preparing for college admission is the reason for taking the PSAT. All Darlington underclassmen will take the PSAT on Tuesday, October 17, at 8:15 a.m. For juniors, the PSAT is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test – the sole vehicle for entry into the National Merit Competition.

For freshmen and sophomores, the test is an important "practice session." While only the junior year score officially "counts," the earlier tests are invaluable to students.

Dean of Studies and College Guidance Sam Moss says that students need as much experience as possible with standardized tests, and the required PSAT will help them with the SAT’s.

"The more opportunities students have to take tests, the more comfortable they become," said Moss. "The best ways to prepare are to review last year’s test which was returned to students and to read the practice booklet that you have been given."
