Professional holds musical master class

At the invitation of Choral Director Dan Bishop, professional vocalist Jason Whitfield worked in members of the musical theater class this spring. He shared performance tips as well as vocal instruction with the students.
Whitfield, a Rome native, sang with the Rome Boys’ Choir for 11 years and graduated from Shorter College with a bachelor’s degree in music education/vocal performance. He received his master’s degree from the University of Tennessee in vocal performance.
At the time of the master class, Whitfield was an assistant professor in choral conducting and musical theater at Walker State College, Sevierville, Tenn., and was in charge of the professional entertainment intern program. He also taught private voice, audition techniques, ear training, and chorale singing. He has performed in various musical productions throughout the southeastern part of the United States and has now joined a four-man a cappella group that will be on tour for the next six months.
