PLU classes offered at Lower School

Darlington is pleased to announce that the Lower School will host several PLU (Professional Learning Unit) classes sponsored by Georgia Educational Training Agency (ETA) in March, April and July of this year. Area teachers are invited to sign up for the following:
The Professional Educator is designed to encourage teachers and administrators to be at their best in today’s classroom. Professional behaviors to be addressed include teacher conduct, teacher morale, school-to-home communication, collaboration, ethical issues, research-based instructional strategies and student assessment. Classes will be offered March 24 and 31 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Helping Boys Succeed in School will educate teachers on the characteristics of the male learner, emphasizing behaviors and learning styles. Methodologies for successful instruction will be discussed. Classes will be offered April 21 and 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Teaching the ADD/ADHD Student Pre-K – 12th will provide teachers with practical effective strategies for helping the ADD/ADHD student succeed. Classes will be offered July 16 and 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
“The staff for Georgia ETA includes National Board Certified teachers; teachers of the year; specialists in reading, math, science, special education, speech pathology, curriculum; and Orton-Gillingham trained instructors,” said Diane Lumpkin, assistant director of Upper School. “We welcome all teachers in our area to join us as we strive to stay abreast of changes and new instructional focuses.”
Each of the above listed courses has been approved by the Georgia Department of Education for one PLU. Cost for each course is $75. For more information or to register, please click here. Maps to the Lower School are available at this site.
