Players Present Winter Musical

The venue has changed but the same professional-style production remains intact. The Darlington Players will present Kiss Me Kate, a musical retelling of Taming of the Shrew at the Cedartown Civic Auditorium Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 4 at 3 p.m.
Due to booking conflicts the production had to be moved from the usual Rome site. “We like to schedule our productions for Parents Weekend and there simply was a glitch,” Marisa Ortega, Darlington Players director, said. “Although we love the rich character of the Rome auditorium, the Cedartown facility is a great fit for this particular production.”
The story is actually a play within a play, according to parent volunteer and Fine Arts Booster Club enthusiast Linda Hom, and features the memorable music of Cole Porter.
Most of the cast and crew have been named: Upper School English faculty Mark Hoven will head the set design and Georgie Coker Hall, a local dance instructor, is the choreographer. Darlington Choral Director Dan Bishop will serve as vocal coach while instrumental music instructor Bill King will direct the music.
The cast includes Spencer Warren, senior, as Fred/Petruchio; Christine Hom, junior, as Lilli/Katherine; Charles Conner, senior, as Bill/Lucentio; Kate Herron, senior, as Lois/Bianca; John-Michael Boling, senior, as Paul; Jamie Kleist, junior, as Hattie; Chris Jackson, junior, as Harry/Baptista; Eli Montgomery, senior, First Gangster; Alex Murray, junior, Second Gangster; Daniel Gay, junior, Gremio; Trip Barnes, junior, Hortensio; Jeremy Martin, junior, Harrison Howell; and general cast members freshman Brittany Pittman; sophomores Russell Evans, Josh Graham, Paul Kountz, and Elyse Moody; juniors Matt Kleist, Jordano Williams, Erin Pridgen, Anne Krawiec, Rebecca Edwards, Katie Galloway, and Page Ryan; and seniors Tia Brown, Holly Jarrell, Stephanie Bowen, Melissa Gamble, Drew Raymond, Amelia Ross, and Whitney Keene.
Tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for students, children, and seniors. Fine Arts Booster Club patrons receive complimentary tickets for members of their immediate family. Tickets will go on sale shortly after Christmas break.
