Players Hit Stage

The Darlington Players are staging an exciting 2000-2001 season. Practice has begun for the kickoff production: John Guare's Tony-winning farce The House of Blue Leaves. The musical, Kiss Me Kate, by Cole Porter and Sam and Bella Spewack will be performed in the winter at Rome's City Auditorium, and this year's spring production will be Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot.
Written in the 1970s and revived in a very successful production in the 1980s, The House of Blue Leaves reflects hilariously and sometimes sadly on America's obsession with fame. Artie, played by Spencer Warren, senior, is stuck in his routine life with his crazy wife, Bananas, Morgan McCrary, senior, but desperately wants to be a songwriter. His girlfriend Bunny, Liz Fine, senior, is pushing him to change his life so that she can advance her own ambitions. This play rides a comic roller-coaster through the not-so-comic country of frustrated ambitions, attempted suicide, terrorism, and shallow Hollywood glitz.
The cast is a mix of Darlington Players veterans and newcomers. The cast includes Alex Murray, junior, as Ronnie; Melissa Gamble, senior, as Corrinna; John-Michael Boling, senior, as Billy; Amelia Ross, senior, as Second Nun; Allison Black, junior, as Little Nun; Josh Graham, sophomore, as Policeman, and Taylor Hine, senior, as The Man in White .
Performances are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 6 - Sunday, Oct 8, at 8 p.m. in the Zelle Drama Room. Admission is free for all Darlington students, faculty, and staff, and all members of the Darlington Fine Arts Booster Club. Due to limited seating, reservations will be accepted only for families and those attending from out of town. All others will be seated on a first-come-first served basis.
