Plan Now for Alumni Weekend 2011!
By Vicki (Slauson) Vincent - FF/S
The dates for Alumni Weekend 2011 have been announced! Classes ending in 1 and 6 will be celebrating their reunions on October 7-9, 2011. On the heels of a record-breaking 2010 Alumni Weekend in October, we have already begun the planning process for fall 2011.
Alumni Weekend 2010 was spectacular – the weather was perfect and the turnout tremendous! We are so thankful for our Alumni Council, who hosted the weekend events, as well as our class agent volunteers, who planned their class parties, contacted classmates and worked tirelessly to make the weekend special for their friends and families.
The year’s Alumni Weekend was extra special because it was held in conjunction with Darlington’s Fall for the Arts Festival. The weekend kicked off with a school-wide festival featuring artwork and performances from students in all three divisions. We were even fortunate enough to have some alumni artwork on display this year! There were fabulous concerts throughout the weekend featuring instrumental and vocal performances.
A huge alumni crowd had the opportunity witness the Tigers dominate Bowdon in Friday evening’s Homecoming football game. There were picnics, campus tours, a town hall meeting and, of course, class parties. The great group of gentlemen from the Class of 1960 were inducted into the Golden Tigers Saturday evening at the Home-on-the-Hill prior to a lovely cocktail party for all alumni. Three classes tried something special this year; the Classes of 1985, 1990 and 1995 together hosted a huge, multi-class party featuring the nationally known band Drivin’ N Cryin’ as well as a local favorite BluTrain. Over 350 alumni and friends from classes from the mid-80s through late-90s turned out at the Lower School gym for the festivities. Special thanks to Wright Ledbetter (’85), Bill Temple (’90) and Kelly Moore (’95) for their efforts in making this event such a hit!
Sunday morning began with the incredibly moving Service of Remembrance officiated by Golden Tiger inductee Horace Stewart (’60). The service was followed by a delicious buffet luncheon with our resident students. Alumni Weekend 2010 set the bar high, and I am really looking forward to what’s in store for October 7-9, 2011! Make your plans now to join us!
