PK-8 Uniform Guidelines for the 2013-14 School Year

The following uniform guidelines will go into effect for grades PK-8 in 2013-14:
While on campus, the following rules are in effect:
· Students are required to arrive on campus properly and neatly attired.
· Required regulation Darlington School uniform items must be purchased from Buckhead Uniforms or Lands’ End. A limited number of uniform pieces will be available through the bookstore.
· Uniforms are required to be worn as the manufacturer intended. Oversized or undersized clothes are not in uniform.
· With the exception of the girls' fashion pant, pants may not be worn around the hips.
· Underwear may not be visible at any time.
· Uniforms are required to be in good repair. Under no circumstances is it appropriate for students to write on, cut up, or deface their uniforms in any way. This includes frayed or stapled hems and slit or frayed pant legs.
· Shirts and blouses must be tucked in at all times for both boys and girls. A shirt is properly tucked in when the belt is visible.
· No hooded sweatshirt or hooded jacket may be worn during the school day. This includes athletic team wear. The only exceptions to this rule are the purple windbreaker and rain coats on rainy days.
· Uniforms do not have to be worn on Tiger Days but Dress Code guidelines, as specified below, must be followed.
· Students’ names should be clearly marked inside all clothing.
Girls Uniform
Knit Shirt
Regulation purple (required), white or maize long- or short-sleeved knit shirt with embroidered school crest
· Please note that only the top button may be unbuttoned.
Oxford Shirt (3-8 only)
Purple long sleeve oxford cloth shirt
· Please note that only the top button may be unbuttoned.
Turtleneck (PK-8)
Regulation white with Darlington School monogram may be worn alone or under polo, sweater, sweatshirt or jumper
Blouse (PK-2 only)
Regulation white Peter Pan collar blouse with short-or-long-sleeves
· Please note that only the top button may be unbuttoned.
Sweater
Regulation solid gray V-neck sweater vest or long-sleeved crew neck with embroidered school monogram
Regulation white or maize cardigan with embroidered school monogram
Regulation argyle sweater vest
· Please note that a regulation school uniform shirt with a collar must be worn underneath all sweaters.
Jumper (PK-2 only) /Knit Dress (PK-5 only)
Regulation plaid or khaki jumper
Regulation purple knit dress
· Privacy shorts are required underneath.
· A regulation school uniform shirt with a collar must be worn underneath all jumpers.
Skirt/Skort
Grades PK-2: black plaid or khaki skirt or skort
Grades 3-5: black plaid, grey plaid, or khaki skirt
Grades 6-8: grey plaid or khaki skirt
· Privacy shorts are required underneath the skirts.
· Please note that skirts and skorts should be no shorter than 3” above the crease in the back of the knee.
Pants
Regulation khaki pants, fashion pants or shorts. All pants are available in flat and pleated front, 100% cotton and a blend. Beltless pants are an option for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten.
Leggings (PK-2 only)
Ankle-length leggings are allowed in solid white, black, brown or gray with no embellishments or lace
Sock/Tights
Socks and tights must be solid white, black, brown, or gray. Any length sock is acceptable. Socks must match in color and length. They must be worn with athletic shoes but do not have to be worn with Sperry or ballerina-type shoes. Footless tights, and fishnet stockings are not permitted.
Shoes
Black, brown, or grey slip-on or lace-up with closed toe and closed heel. Athletic shoes may be worn. No high-top tennis shoes. Solid brown, black, gray, or camel Ugg style boots may be worn between Nov. 1 and March 31. No sequins or embellishments are allowed on shoes. Black and white saddle oxfords are allowed, however, no sandals, clogs, or combat-style or rain boots.
Belt
Belts required on clothing with belt loops. Regulation dark brown or black solid color, braided belt, or the ribbon school paw belt with leather or d-ring buckle is allowed. No rhinestone or oversized belt buckles.
PK-1 only: Khaki stretch belt with magnetic buckle. Black/brown reversible belt also acceptable.
Sweatshirt
Regulation purple or gray with embroidered school crest
· Please note that a regulation school uniform shirt with a collar must be worn underneath all sweatshirts.
· No other brand or Darlington sweatshirt may be worn.
Coats and Jackets
Regulation grey full-zip or half-zip fleece jacket or vest with embroidered school crest
Charcoal Evolux jacket with embroidered school crest
Purple nylon jacket (Performer or Enterprise brand) with embroidered school crest and may be purchased at Buckhead uniforms.
· Please note that a regulation school uniform shirt with a collar must be worn underneath all outerwear.
· No other brand or Darlington coats or jackets may be worn.
Hair Accessories
Headbands, hair bows and hairbands must be solid black, purple, white, brown, or regulation plaid. Feathers or flowers are not allowed.
P.E. Uniforms
Athletic shoes must be worn to P.E. for all grades PK-8.
Grades 6-8: Regulation T-shirt and nylon basketball type shorts or sweat suits are to be worn daily during P.E., fitness and athletic practices unless otherwise notified. These must be purchased during online registration.
Dress Uniform Day
Grade PK-2: Regulation khaki or plaid skirt or skort with a purple knit shirt.
Grades 3-5: Regulation grey plaid or khaki skirt or skort is required. Purple oxfords are required between Nov. 1 and March 31. Before Nov. 1 and after March 31, students may wear the purple knit shirt in lieu of the oxford. Black, brown, or grey dress shoes. No athletic shoes.

No body piercing or tattoos may be visible at any time.
No scarves, hats or caps.
Tiger Days
Dress on this day will consist of blue jeans or Bermuda shorts (that are no more than three inches above the crease in the back of the knee), shoes of any type (except bedroom shoes), and casual tops.

- Shirts with plunging necklines or that expose the midriff T-shirts with offensive language or reference to alcohol or drugs

- Mini-skirts shorter than three inches above the crease in the back of the knee
- Shoes that exceed two inches in height.
