Picon named National Hispanic Scholar

Senior Monique Picon is one of only 5,000 students to be named a National Hispanic Scholar through The College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program. She was selected out of a pool of 200,000 students.
Picon is an “A” student and a member of the House Senate; the Spanish Honor Society; and the varsity rowing, soccer and swim teams. She has also received the E.L. Wright Scholastic Honor Award for Spanish. In eighth grade, she spent a semester in Puerto Rico. Outside of school, she was selected to participate in High School Leadership Rome and the Duke Talent Identification Program. She has also played piano for 12 years, earning multiple awards. She is the daughter of Dr. Hector and Michelle Picon of Rome.
The NHRP was initiated in 1983 to identify outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students.
