Personal Stories Make a Difference

As I travel about for the Second Century Campaign, I hear so many wonderful stories. From the middle school student who donated winnings from the Ducky Derby to the successful entrepreneur who started out in a shipping warehouse and became Darlington’s largest benefactor, these stories aren’t just about the gift, they are about the giver and the role that Darlington played in transforming their lives. These stories make Darlington such a special place.
The Southeastern Mills Challenge is one such story. The Grizzard family has long supported equal education for everyone and this challenge is a testament to their ongoing commitment to this initiative. To hear alumna Linda (Grizzard) Owens ’79 explain the 1:1 match for student financial aid, please click here. Please listen as she speaks passionately about the difference she has seen scholarships make in students’ lives. By building the endowment for student financial aid, we can all be a part of transforming young lives in Darlington’s next 100 years.
Each gift to Darlington, large or small, has a story to tell. If you are interested in making a real difference in a students’ life, this 1:1 match is a perfect opportunity. To make a contribution, please click here.
I hope you enjoy Linda’s story. I am also interested in hearing your own personal Darlington story, so I hope you will be in touch.
Best wishes for 2012.
