Parents Set Example at School

No wonder students at the Middle School eagerly and unselfishly give to others. What better way to learn than by example? That seems to be the case on a daily basis within the walls of the Middle School. Through the Parents Association, volunteers lend a hand each and every day the doors are open. Assisting Diane Ogletree when she takes a break at lunch, parents pass out bandages, take temperatures, answer questions, receive messages, or roll coins from the vending machine – all in an atmosphere that probably feels busier than Grand Central Station.
The faculty appreciates these deeds and they also see the benefits students reap from parent generosity. “Parents do whatever we ask of them. They are wonderful. From driving for field trips to coaching, they are so supportive with their time as well as donations. These parents serve as role models,” Nancy Ivester, Middle School English instructor, said.
According to Ivester many Middle School parents are leaders in the community and work regularly with agencies such as United Way, local soup kitchens, and other charities. Whether in the School or in the greater community, by volunteering time, talents, or gifts, these parents are perpetuating generosity through their examples.
