Parent to Parent series tackles tough teenage issues

Upper School and Middle School parents have the opportunity to learn more about dealing directly with violence, drugs, sex, and character development, challenging issues facing adolescents today, through the Parent to Parent program. Parent to Parent, an eight-session, video-based program, was developed by Bill Oliver, one of the country’s foremost authorities on parenting and “The Toxic Culture.”
“One of the greatest prevention tools ever invented to protect our children from today’s ‘Toxic Culture’ is an informed, trained, and motivated parent," Jill Pate, director of student counseling, said in describing this program. “The goal of Parent to Parent is to help communities create a parent culture that is supportive of children and intolerant of the negative influences that impact our youth.”
The program kicks off on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at 12 p.m., in the Dodd Banquet Room. An evening program will also be offered for each session, beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m., in the Faculty Lounge in the McCallie Kennedy Library.
Following the kick-off, regularly scheduled Parent to Parent sessions will meet every Monday morning from 8:30 to 9:30, and every Monday evening from 7 to 8 in the McCallie Kennedy Library. Sessions are not sequential, so parents may attend at anytime.
