Oratorical Winners Announced

Nine Darlington students competed in the Rome Breakfast Optimist Club's annual oratorical contest in February. Each participant was required to speak on “Optimism in My Life.”
Receiving honors for girls were sophomore Stephanie Bowen, first place; seventh-grader Ryan Randles, second place; and seventh-grader Megan Boling, third place.
In the boys’ group, honors went to eighth-grader Paul Kountz, first place; seventh-grader Adam Peller, second place; and eighth-grader Josh Graham, third place. Other students participating included sixth-grader Kristin Kountz and seventh-graders Laura Bennett and Brett Murray.
“I'm so proud of all of these boys and girls,” said Middle School teacher Nancy Ivester, who coached the students. “They represented Darlington well.”
“This oratorical contest has been a lot of fun,” reported Paul Kountz. “I got to hear about other's people's ideas of optimism and made new friends.”
Both Paul and Stephanie Bowen continued on to the city competition, held at Berry College in March. Paul received first place and Stephanie placed third. Paul then took second in the area competition Sunday, April 18.
