Opening assembly emphasizes Darlington’s mission

It is the goal of Lower School administrators that students to know and understand the importance of wisdom, service and honor, the guiding principles outlined in the Darlington School motto. With this in mind, the Lower School community gathered for an opening assembly on the first day of school.
“Students learned the meaning of the school colors, purple and white, and learned about the School mascot, the courageous and enthusiastic tiger,” said Diane Lumpkin, assistant principal.
Additionally, the School motto was displayed and explained. Emphasis was put on the importance of the honor code and the significance of the alma mater. Also displayed was an enlarged photo of the School crest that is visible all over campus and on student uniforms.
“The values we strive to instill in our students are the basic tenants of the School’s mission,” said Lumpkin. “As we begin our 100th year, it is especially important for our students to understand the meaning of the School symbols that are so much a part of Darlington.”
