O’Mara wins Youth Birding T-shirt design contest

Senior Kelly O’Mara’s acrylic painting “Georgia Bird” won first place in a T-shirt design contest for the third annual Youth Birding Competition, which is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources in early May.
“Everyone around the Wildlife Resources Department Headquarters Office was so impressed with Kelly’s artwork,” said Tim Keyes, wildlife biologist and coordinator of the annual competition. “It is our hope that Noel Holcomb, director of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, will be able to visit Darlington this spring for an official presentation.”
As contest winner, O’Mara will also be honored at the Youth Birding Competition Banquet, where she will receive a $100 gift card to Michael’s craft store. In addition, her design will appear on all official 2008 Youth Birding Competition T-shirts. The design contest was open to Georgia residents in grades pre-K to 12. Winning artwork must be original, and the bird depicted in the design must be native to Georgia.
