Families new to the Middle School were treated to a “Welcome to Darlington” pizza party on Aug. 14 in the A.J. Huffman ’67 Memorial Athletic Center. Sixty-five of the 75 new students (including previous fifth graders from the Lower School) attended. The Huffman Center’s concourse provided a large space to host the large crowd.

“The pizza party was a fun and informative evening,” Lisa Nichols, Middle School parent, said. “It was a great opportunity for the new parents to meet each other and have their questions answered and the kids enjoyed meeting each other.”

Each student received a new Middle School T-shirt and then enjoyed pizza, salad, and ice cream sandwiches. After the meal, Middle School faculty entertained students in the practice gym while Principal Jim Van Es, Sally Macleod, and Diane Ogletree presented an orientation to the parents.

“It was a great evening of reassurance and beginning,” Lea Duncan, assistant director of admission, said.
