Ninth, tenth, eleventh graders to take PSAT in October

Preparing for college admission is the reason for taking the PSAT. All Darlington underclassmen will take the PSAT on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 8:15 a.m. For juniors, the PSAT is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test – the sole vehicle for entry into the National Merit Competition. For freshmen and sophomores, the test is an important practice session. While only the junior-year score officially counts, the earlier tests are invaluable to students.
"Students need as much experience as possible with standardized tests, and the required PSAT will help them with the SAT’s," Sam Moss, associate headmaster and dean of college guidance, explained. “The more opportunities student have to take tests, the more comfortable they become. The best ways to prepare are to review last year’s test which was returned to students and to read the practice booklet that you have been given. The booklet’s cover says it all:‘Real Test prep from the test makers!’”
