News to Me
By Lea Duncan - FF/S
One of the things I love about my position here is learning new things from parents who tour. Inevitably, someone will give me insight that I hadn’t thought about before concerning the difference at Darlington.
Recently, two families from totally different areas with children visiting in different grade levels shared the same comment after their individual tours. “It’s amazing how calm and quiet your classrooms are!” Of course, I’ve known this for a long time, but what I haven’t realized is that obviously that’s not the case elsewhere.
Noise and distractions seem to be common disruptions in other places, which lead to frustration, not only for parents, but their children as well. This fact led me to ask a new student last week what she liked about Darlington. (I wasn't asking whether it was better than where she’d been, but wanted to know what it was that she liked about her new school.) She immediately said the calmness (that word again!) and order of the classrooms here.
Our teachers are doing a phenomenal job creating a true learning environment for our students. They allow our children to grow in a quiet, reassuring atmosphere not constantly interrupted by diversions and discipline matters. Encourage your friends to experience the learning and teaching here and see if their reactions are news to you!
