New Middle School swim team comes out strong

The new Middle School swim team has been practicing three times a week since Fall Break and the effort showed in the meet results. The team hosted two meets and one invitational in December and January.
On Dec. 7 four teams came—Walker, Landmark Christian, Woodland, and South Central—and Darlington placed third out of five. On Dec. 14, Darlington came in second against Woodland, South Central, and Dalton. The team placed third in the Jan. 18 Tiger Invitational.
“Our most outstanding swimmers are Anna Kipp and Michelle Picon, who have much experience with other swim teams,” Darlington parent Holly Burch said. “T.J. Shea has starred for the boys in many areas, especially the individual medley, which requires mastering all four competitive swim strokes. Every swimmer has improved his or her strokes, speed, and stamina, learned racing dives, and worked on flip turns. Plus, we’ve had a lot of fun.”
“I want to thank our volunteer Middle School coach, Ruth Ann Cox, and Rob Meaney, Darlington’s head swim coach,” Burch said. The team will wrap up the season next week with a “Fun Meet” and team party. “We are looking forward to building on what we’ve learned this year next season and in the years to come,” Burch said.
