My Darlington Story: 'There's a Place for Everyone, Yet We Are All Part of One School'

My Darlington story is a little unusual. Although I’ve been at Darlington since kindergarten, I’m not your typical “Dar Baby.” I’m considered a “Campus Kid,” which means that I lived on campus during my elementary years with my family in a faculty apartment, and it was fantastic to say the least.
The dorm students greatly impacted me, and I loved being a part of the “dorm life” as a first-grader. Tiger Fest was my favorite event. I mean what 6-year-old doesn’t love free funnel cakes and sno-cones? But when I was entering the Middle School, my family decided to move off campus, so I had to stay connected to Darlington in other ways.
There is a place for everyone at Darlington. I found my place on the cross country trails, in the art studio, in the dorms, and in the library. Cross country season is, by far, my favorite time of the year. I look forward to Tuesday moderate runs on the beautiful trails with my friends after a long day at school, and the campus is beautiful in the fall. Saturday races are a blast, and the cross country team camping trip my freshman year is by far one of my favorite memories.
Art also had a big impact on me. Mrs. O’Mara is one of my favorite teachers at Darlington, and I could easily come to her with any problems I had. I also developed a passion for art. I love to paint, draw, and sculpt new pieces of art, and I learned about value, color, and design.
Dorm life had an impact on me as a high school student. Although I was able to get a head start on the dorm life as a Lower School student, the friendships I made during my high school years are going to last a life time. From RUMPUS, to Tiger Fest, to picnics on The Quad, the fun never stopped. I can never be thankful enough for my dorm friends for loaning me a pair of tennis shoes when I forgot to bring some to practice, and I know I’m always welcome in the dorm.
The library will always have a special place in my heart. It’s where I spend most of my time at Darlington. Whether I am studying for a history quiz in a cubicle, or “studying” (socializing) with my friends on the beloved couch, the library has always been there for me. As cheesy as it sounds, I think I’m actually going to miss the library when I head off to college. It was a place of safety and familiarity for all my years as an Upper School student.
So yeah, it’s pretty safe to say that Darlington has been a big impact on my life. Every Darlington story is different. For me, it’s the cross country trails, the library and the art studio, and for someone else, it could be the choir room and the lacrosse field. That’s what’s so great about Darlington. There’s a place for everyone, yet we are all part of one school.
